Mrs. Mattie Lois Mason was born September 22, 1931 to the late Rosezetta Gilzer and William Lee Cox in Forest, Mississippi. She accepted Christ as Lord and Savior at an early age in Mississippi, where she also received her education. She was united in holy matrimony with Steve Mason. She was employed as a cook and an In-Home Care Provider for many years.
Mattie moved to Pittsburg in 1958 where she raised her family. She enjoyed fishing, family gatherings and going to the casinos. The joy of her life was spending time with and raising her children and grandchildren.
Mattie Lois Mason departed this life on February 23, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosezetta Gilzer and William Lee Cox; a son, Lonnie Mason; daughter, Rosalie Robertson; granddaughter, Leticia O'Neal great-grandson, Curtis Adams, Jr; and great-great grandson, Ruben Rodriguez.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children: daughter, Pauline (Cornel) Thomas of Antioch, CA, Barbara (Billy Ray) Evers of Pittsburg, CA, Jeanette (Willie) Robinson of Bay Point, CA, and Verline (Keith) Mason of Pittsburg, CA; sons: Willie (Wanda) Mason of San Diego, CA, Levi and Ricky Mason of Pittsburg, CA, Terry (Regina) Haygood of Antioch, CA, and Randy Haygood of Bay Point, CA. She also leaves behind 45 grandchildren, 69 great-children, 16 great-great-grandchildren, and four great-great-great- grandchildren; sisters: Eddie Anderson of Pittsburg, CA, Shirley (Curtis) Holloway of Chicago, IL, Virginia Cox of Columbus, OH; brothers: Willie White of Los Angeles, CA, James A. (Patricia) Cox, Joseph (Mattie) Cox, and Lou Earl (Barbara) Cox, all of Columbus, OH, Woodrow (Sarah) Cox of Jackson, MS; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, friends and best friend, Mrs. Beatrice Threatt.
