Mrs. Mae Evelyn Lawson, daughter of the late Madie and the late Ida Hughey, was born in McKamie, Arkansas on January 31, 1925.
She accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, uniting with Friendship Baptist Church in McKamie, Arkansas and later united with First Baptist Church upon relocating to Pittsburg, CA.
Mae Evelyn received her education in Arkansas and graduated from high school. She was employed for years as a cannery worker.
She met and later unite4d in holy matrimony to Harold Lawson in Pittsburg, CA in 1946. This union was blessed with four sons: Leonard Sr., Samuel, Howard, and Carlos; and one daughter, Carolyn.
Mae Evelyn had a love for many things. She loved: The LORD, gardening, especially her roses, volunteering at Loaves and Fishes, crocheting, sewing, spending time with family and friends, visiting the sick and shut-in at convalescent facilities, and spreading joy to all who crossed her path. Her favorite song was "You've Been Good to Me" and her favorite scripture was Psalm 121.
Mae Evelyn Lawson departed this life on July 11, 2012 and was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Lawson; son, Samuel Lawson; grandson, Cleave Lawson; great-grandchildren: Alyah Robins and Terrance Collier, Jr.; and sisters: Verdie Price, Hazel Slaughter, and Theola Purifoy.
The memory of Mae Evelyn is precious to and is cherished by: her sons: Leonard (Ola) Lawson Sr., Howard (LaLa) Lawson and Carlos Lawson; daughter, Carolyn Lawson; brother, Edward Hughey; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives, friends, and her church family.
