Percy Mae Owens was born on September 25, 1924 in Beaumont, Texas to her parents, Eloise Bernice Lewis and Percy James Anderson. She was raised in Beaumont, Texas and moved to California in 1942.
Percy Mae started her career in nursing in 1954 and enjoyed a long nursing career of 36 years. She met and later married Alex Owens Jr. in the Bay Area in 1947. This union was blessed with two sons, Alex Owens III and Dwight James Owens. Percy Mae joined First Baptist Church in November of 1947 and joined the church choir. She loved to sing.

Percy Mae Owens departed this life of Sunday July 5, 2015 and was preceded in death by her parents, Percy James Anderson and Eloise Bernice Lewis; her son, Alex Owens III; her brother, Weldon James Anderson Sr.; her sisters, Otheree Russum and Eloise Ludie Milburn and her grandson, Jeffery Allen DeRouen Owens.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Dwight James Owens Sr.; grandchildren, Dwight James Owens Jr. of Oakland, CA, Conesha Monet Owens of Los Angeles, CA, Caija Kwasi Owens of Washington, DC, Kelisha Danielle Owens of Philadelphia, PA, Alexis Dana Owens of Seattle, WA, Dominique Devaroque Owens of Seattle, WA and Sarkle Necole Owens of Pittsburg, CA; great grandchildren, Lakitha Owens, Maliq Staten and Ayjjah Richardson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and her church family.
