Mildred Norflin-Grigsby was born in St. Francisville, Louisiana on July 16, 1935 to the proud parents of Hampton and Zayzell Norflin who preceded her in death. She was the eldest of 10 children. Affectionately known as "Mutt". Mildred received her High School education at John Dawson High School in St. Francisville, Louisiana. After completing her high school education, Mildred met and married the love of her life, Leonard Grigsby (who preceded her in death). From this union three children were born, Iona, Albert and Cedric.

In 1961 Mildred and her family moved to San Francisco, California. Mildred attended vocational school where she acquired her LVN license. Later on, she had the pleasure of owning and operating a rest home in the Bayview Hunter's Point District for 25 years named "Mildred's Rest Home for the Ambulatory". Mildred was a loving and nurturing caregiver. She had an overwhelming passion for helping others. Mildred was a pillar in the community.

Mildred united with the African Methodist Episcopal Church in San Francisco where she was a faithful member.

Before Mildred's health challenges, she loved to travel. She would travel by train, boat or plane, where she would enjoy meeting new people, family, food and fun.

On November 24th, while surrounded by her family, the Lord called an angel home. Her family and friends loved her dearly. No one knows when the joys of life will become only memories. Yet pleasant thoughts can reflect moments of joy when Mildred comes to mind.

Mildred leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Iona Wilson; two sons, Cedric Grigsby, Albert Grigsby; four grandchildren, Monique Cook, April Wright, Charday Grigsby, Terrell Joseph; two great-grandchildren, Khiary Collins, Jayla Bodie; nine siblings; Hampton Norflin, Hilda Johnson, Doretha White, Lee Norflin, Earl Norflin, Mattie Hollins, Andrew Norflin, Ephrim Norflin; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
