Brother James Hall was born in Opelousas, Louisiana on April 10, 1932 to Hammay Hall and Armenia Hall.

In 1966, James moved his family from New Orleans, LA and began working at Nationwide Papers, Inc. while working part-time at the Port of San Francisco Shipyard. He retired from Nationwide Papers, Inc. in 1997 and joined St. Paul of the Shipwreck Catholic Church. He met and married Flordeliza Abanilla in 2007.

Brother James was a rare exception at St. Paul of the Shipwreck Catholic Church because he exemplified what service to the church and his fellow man meant by his commitment to serve. He was, for many years, the groundskeeper. He would sweep and pick up the trash almost everyday after morning Mass and would keep the trees trimmed. He attended the Novena to our Mother of Perpetual Help faithfully to pray as he did in the Men's Prayer group that meets every Thursday night. He was the Cross bearer in our Mass at 10:45 a.m. and after Lent would be asked to fill the bowls with "holy water" as no one else could. He was also a member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver, St. Benedict de Moor Council #120. He served the Council members at each meeting by bringing pastries as refreshments. His acts of kindness to members of our church are legendary and spread among all people of different backgrounds, cultures and ages.

His faithfulness and demeanor allowed him to be loved by all and remind us of how we were to respect and love one another, No greater love is there than what James Hall had for God, his wife Lisa, his family and St. Paul of the Shipwreck Catholic Church. We thank God for sending him into our lives to make us all better people.

Brother James transitioned to glory on May 19, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Hall; and daughter, Dione Barksdale.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his loving wife, Flordeliza; one son, James Mickeal of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Joseph Hall; two sisters: Audrey Brown and Barbara Cole, all of Los Angeles, CA; seven grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends ad church family.
