Army Emblem

Ewell Bernard Levy, Sr. was born October 10, 1962 in Lewisville, Arkansas. He moved to Pittsburg, California with his family in 1964. His parents, Herman and Annie Levy, reared him with the love of Christ at an early age. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Solomon Temple Missionary Baptist Church by the late Rev. P.N. Sumpter in 1972. Growing up in the church, he sang in the youth choir and even directed the youth choir a few times with great joy.

Ewell loved sports and played J.F.L. football with the Vikings. He also played baseball in the Bronco League on a team called the Bandits that was coached by the legendary Chuck Cabalas.

He graduated from Pittsburg Senior High School in 1980. During that time, he helped form an entertainment group who performed as "Morris Day and the Time" with Ewell taking the lead role of impersonating Morris Day. His group performed in many places throughout the Bay Area and even landed a spot on the 1980's television show, " Putting on the Hits."

Ewell served in the United States Army. He worked construction throughout the 90's. In 2002, he conquered one of his dreams by completing truck driving school at Arkansas State University. He loved driving 18-wheelers and was an expert at it. He worked for several different companies, among those were PAM Transportation, DeBora Transport and Antioch Dispatchers, to name a few.

Being a very positive and happy person, to know Ewell was to love him. When he entered a room, he definitely was the light that shined! He was a people-person who genuinely loved his family and friends. Always sensitive to other people's needs, he sacrificed his own to save so many others. Ewell departed this life as a true Pittsburg hometown hero.

Ewell was a beloved father of six. He was preceded in death by his son, Germaine A. Levy; his younger brother, Herman J. Levy, Jr; and nephew, Gregory F. Levy II.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters: Latoia (Otis) Levy Johnson of Sacramento, CA and Jayden M. Levy of Richmond, CA; three sons: Matthew J. Levy of San Pablo, CA, Ewell B. Levy II of Pittsburg, CA and Geovanni D. Levy of Richmond, CA; his parents: Herman and Annie Levy of Lancaster, TX: his grandmother, Augustine Levy of Lake St. John, LA; one brother, Gregory (Cassandra) F. Levy, Sr. of Brentwood, CA; one sister: Nicole (Terry Sr.) Matthews of Lancaster, TX; one grandson, Lorenzo M. Johnson of Sacramento, CA; his companion, Michelle Parker of Richmond, CA; close cousins who were more like brothers: Gardner Sr., Danny & Darryl Daniels, Eric Sr. & Vincent Pree, Christopher Taylor Sr., and Robert & Sam Tucker; nephews who considered him their favorite uncle: Joseph, Kalen & Keaton Levy, Terry Jr., Nicolas & Chaz Matthews; aunts, and a host of others relatives and friends.
